Description

Barranc de Son Marroig is a natural landscape in Mallorca, well known as the starting point for walks towards the striking rocky outcrop of Sa Foradada.

Walking & Nature

Barranc de Son Marroig draws walkers keen to soak up sweeping coastal views on the way to Sa Foradada. The water below is remarkably clear, and those who make it down to the shore can take a dip. The descent is entirely on foot — and once you reach the bottom, the only way back is the same path up.

Son Marroig – the Estate

Perched above the ravine is the historic estate of Son Marroig, the former residence of Archduke Ludwig Salvator of Habsburg. The building is now used for weddings among other events, so it is rarely open to the public. Down in the olive grove below the estate, you may well come across donkeys on a stroll through the surroundings.

Restaurant by the Sea

At the foot of the descent, right on the water's edge, there is a restaurant with a self-service area and a rather picturesque setting. Bear in mind, though, that prices tend to be on the high side and service can be hit and miss — those not eating are typically directed to a less favourable seating area.

Getting There

Barranc de Son Marroig sits within the municipality with postcode 07179 in the Illes Balears, in the north-west of Mallorca.
