Cala Estreta
Description
Cala Estreta is a small, secluded rocky cove in the municipality of Artà in the north-east of Mallorca.
Rocky cove with crystal-clear water
Cala Estreta is a pure rock cove — don't come expecting fine sand. The water is wonderfully clear and, compared to the surrounding coves, relatively calm with very little wave action, making it a pleasure to swim in. Getting into the water does take a bit of effort, though: you'll need to pick your way along the rocks, so sturdy footwear is a sensible idea. Bring snorkelling gear and you'll be well rewarded beneath the surface.
Peace, quiet, and unspoilt nature
The cove is remarkably tranquil and rarely crowded — its protected natural setting and the effort required to reach it keep visitor numbers low. The rugged coastal landscape and the untouched nature all around are the real draw here. There are no facilities whatsoever on site: no restaurants, no toilets, no hire stations.
Getting there
From the car park, Cala Estreta is reached on foot; the walk is around 1.5 km. The access road serving this cove and its neighbours Cala Torta and Cala Mitjana is blocked by a metal chain and, in any case, is riddled with deep potholes and in no condition to drive on. Good walking shoes are strongly recommended for the path. The cove also sits along a longer coastal walking route that leads, amongst other places, to the Torre d'Albarca.
