Cala Rotja is a small, unspoilt rocky cove on Mallorca with a shingle beach and crystal-clear water.
Character of the Cove
The cove is compact and peaceful, with a shingle shore underfoot. The water is well suited to swimming and snorkelling, as the surrounding rocks create fascinating underwater scenery. If there's a swell running, it's worth bringing water shoes, as the water can turn murky and seaweed may appear. The rocky, stony terrain makes the cove less suitable for young children. There is no lifeguard on duty and no toilet facilities on site.
Snorkelling & Swimming
Cala Rotja is particularly well regarded for snorkelling — the rocks and clear water make for excellent conditions. On calm days the water takes on a gorgeous turquoise hue. Bringing your own snorkel mask is highly recommended.
Two Coves & the Surroundings
There are actually two small coves here side by side. The one to the right as seen from the restaurant tends to be more sheltered from the wind and a little cleaner. Perched above the bay is a restaurant that lends the cove its name.
Getting There & Parking
Parking is available along the roads above the cove, and the restaurant car park is another handy starting point. The beach is straightforward to reach by car. As space around the cove is limited, arriving early is a good idea.
