Description

Cala S'Algar is a small, unspoilt cove in Sant Elm on the south-western tip of Mallorca.

The Cove

Cala S'Algar takes its name from the abundant underwater vegetation found along its shores. The beach is pebbly, the water crystal clear, and the seabed is a mix of sand and rock. Sheltered from the wind and with very little current, the cove is well suited to snorkelling — the water stays fairly shallow throughout. Kayakers also find it a handy starting point for exploring the coastline.

Views and Atmosphere

The views across to the island of Sa Dragonera and the Mediterranean are one of the real draws here, as are the sunsets. The cove sits right in the heart of Sant Elm yet retains a genuine, unhurried charm. Visit during the week and you'll often find it wonderfully quiet.

Walking and Day Trips

Cala S'Algar makes a great base for walkers: you can follow the coastline on foot and tackle ascents all the way to the summit. The area is also well worth a visit for birdwatching enthusiasts.

The cove is located in Sant Elm (07159), a small village in the south-west of Mallorca. Access to the beach is via a stairway.
