Description
Cova des Bous is a historic natural monument near Felanitx in south-east Mallorca — a spacious, horizontally laid-out karst cave sitting at around 350 metres above sea level.
The Cave
Cova des Bous is essentially a single-chamber cave with a predominantly horizontal layout. Inside you'll find large, inactive stalactites and stalagmites. The striking entrance portal, dominated by a massive overhang, is a favourite with climbers, and you'll spot numerous fixed climbing anchors throughout the cave area. It's worth noting that this is not the same as the neighbouring Cova Calenta — the two are separate sites.
Location & Getting There
The cave is located at Diseminado Sexta Volta 617, near Felanitx, and is just a couple of minutes' walk from the Castillo de Santueri car park — the difference in elevation between the car park and the cave entrance is minimal. The approach is over rocky terrain. From the car park you'll also enjoy sweeping views across the surrounding countryside.
A Note on Access
Visits aren't always possible on a drop-in basis. Outside the main season the site is closed, and access is only available by prior arrangement. It's well worth checking the current situation before you make the trip, as there are no signs on site to warn you of any closure.
