Description
The Caves of Drach (Cuevas del Drach) in Porto Cristo are one of Mallorca's most celebrated natural attractions — an expansive cave system featuring an underground lake, walkable paths, and a live concert performed deep inside the mountain.
An underground kingdom of stone and water
The Caves of Drach stretch for nearly 1,200 metres and reach up to 25 metres below the surface. Inside, dense formations of stalactites and stalagmites fill vast cavern halls whose scale and lighting never fail to astonish. The centrepiece is Lake Martel — an underground lake that ranks among the largest in the world. A carefully designed lighting scheme showcases both the rock formations and the mirror-smooth surface of the water to spectacular effect.
A concert on Lake Martel — and a boat ride to follow
The visit culminates on the shores of Lake Martel with a live classical music concert: musicians on boats glide across the lake and play within the cave's natural acoustics — an experience widely described as magical and unforgettable. The resonance of the cavern amplifies every note. After the concert, you have the chance to cross the lake on a short boat ride.
Location & getting there
The caves are located on Ctra. de les Coves, s/n, in Porto Cristo on the eastern coast of Mallorca. There is free parking directly at the entrance, with additional free on-street parking available nearby. Booking tickets online works out cheaper than buying at the door and secures your preferred time slot — entry is managed in timed groups.
Who is the visit suited to?
The caves are very much suited to children and families. Do bear in mind that the path through the caves includes steps and narrow passages — wheelchairs, walking frames, and pushchairs cannot be taken inside. An accessible car park and accessible toilets are available, but the cave path itself is not wheelchair accessible.
