The sand begins where the terrace ends, and from a front-row table you look directly out over the turquoise water of Magaluf — no fence, no concrete strip, just salt air and the soft lap of waves. This is El Chaval de S'Esponja, the beach club that calls itself 'an oasis in Magaluf' — and for once, that is not empty marketing. Concept El Chaval is operated by Grupo Beewi, a Mallorcan hospitality group established since 2005 at their flagship on Paseo Mallorca in Palma, with El Chaval as their coastal outpost. The in-house concept is 'lujo relajado' — relaxed luxury — and the description holds up: no over-the-top VIP theatre, but noticeably more care in service and on the plate than the average bay restaurant. During the day it runs as a full beach-and-dining operation: Balinese beds with sea views, hammocks by the water, classic sun loungers with direct sea access. Book a Balinese bed and your food and drink service comes directly to your spot. Atmosphere The setting is the strongest argument: tables in the first sea-row, the water close enough to feel, lit warmly and atmospherically at night. Guests describe the views in superlatives across the board — and sitting that close to the Playa de Magaluf feels different from watching it from a hotel balcony. The venue is compact and deliberately shaded, architecturally Mediterranean-simple: wood, fabric, no ostentatious gestures. Precisely because of its modest size, the atmosphere is more personal than the mega-clubs — and spots are accordingly more coveted. Food & Drinks The centrepiece is the rice. The 'El Chaval' paella — fish and seafood served completely shelled, so there is no messy work at the table — has become something of a legend among regulars; Valencian guests who know what good paella means rate it without reservation. For something more celebratory, there is the lobster paella or the creamy lobster rice. A paella de osobuco also appears regularly on the menu and comes recommended by guests. One important note: paella and fideuà are prepared only for a minimum of two people and only on timely advance order — those who want it should say so early. Beyond the rice, two pasta dishes stand out: tagliatelle with lobster, and tagliatelle with guanciale, truffle cream and egg yolk — the latter a perennial favourite with returning guests. The tapas menu covers rib tacos, prawn tacos with guacamole, gyozas, fried squid with tartare, coquinas and clams in marinera. On the fresh side: tuna tartare with mango and crispy wonton, prawn ceviche with papaya and avocado, Hawaiian poke. Fish mains: grilled sea bass and grilled sole, at the top of the menu huevos rotos with lobster. The drinks list runs to premium cocktails, its own wine list and smoothies. Dishes are also available as takeaway for those who'd rather eat elsewhere. Price level is upper-mid: not a bargain stop, but proportionate for the beachfront setting and kitchen quality. Who It's For & Occasions El Chaval is explicitly designed for all age groups and is family-friendly. Many guests return multiple times within the same holiday — a fact that is not to be taken for granted at a Magaluf beach club.
