Description

The Ermita de Maristel·la is a small chapel within the municipality of Esporles, tucked into a holm oak forest in the Tramuntana mountains.

A hiking destination with a view

The Ermita de Maristel·la is best known as a hiking destination. The path winds through a holm oak forest, and the panoramic views over Esporles and the Tramuntana mountains are sweeping and clear. Once you reach the top, a quiet, secluded atmosphere awaits — this is a spot where you can sometimes find yourself completely alone. There's plenty of space around the chapel for a picnic.

The chapel

At first glance, the building looks more like a finca than a church. The chapel itself is often locked, but a visit is well worth it for the setting and the views alone. The site has been cared for over many years by a group of volunteers.

The ascent & route

The most popular route starts in Esporles. The ascent is uphill throughout and steep in places, so it's worth bearing that in mind if you don't hike regularly. A circular route via the Camí des Correu is possible: head up to the Ermita, then back down towards the village entrance. Trail markings can be patchy in spots, so it's strongly advisable not to stray from the marked path, as the network of tracks in the surrounding area can be confusing.

Getting there

The Ermita de Maristel·la is located within the municipality of Esporles (07190) in the Balearic Islands. It can be reached on foot from Esporles.
