Description
Es Claper des Gegant is an archaeological site on Mallorca — the remains of a prehistoric settlement that predates the Roman occupation of the island.
A Prehistoric Settlement
What you'll find here are the surviving walls of a prehistoric settlement built by Mallorca's original inhabitants, long before the Romans arrived on the island. Multilingual information boards on site explain the history of the complex. Much of the area has been reclaimed by vegetation over the years, which does limit how clearly the archaeological remains can be read.
Getting There & Location
The site sits within the 07589 postcode area of the Illes Balears, reached via an unpaved track. It lies close to the Canyamel golf course, and getting there is straightforward — the walk to the site is short and undemanding. Parts of the grounds extend onto private land, which is crossed using ladders.
What to Expect on the Ground
Waymarking along the route exists but is patchy in places — fallen signposts can occasionally make navigation a little tricky. The site itself is somewhat irregular underfoot and parts are harder going. It is not suitable for wheelchair users. Quietly set and surrounded by nature, the place has a peaceful, unhurried atmosphere all of its own.
