Description
Es Forti is a historic fortress in Santanyí, freely accessible to visitors and offering sweeping panoramic views across the sea and the surrounding coves.
History and Architecture
Es Forti was built in 1740 to protect the small harbour from pirate raids. Following an earthquake in 1793, the fortification was rebuilt. The square structure stands as one of the few surviving historic landmarks in the area around Cala d'Or and Santanyí, and today it is kept in excellent, well-maintained condition.
Views and Atmosphere
The real draw of Es Forti is its far-reaching outlook: from the fortress, your gaze stretches across the sea, the bay, the harbour, and the neighbouring coves along the coastline. Both sunrises and sunsets are particularly special here. Paths and trails wind around the fort along the rocks, right to the edge of the cliffs — a wonderful added reason to visit.
What to Expect on Your Visit
At the entrance you'll find a QR code giving you background information about the fortress. Multilingual leaflets provide historical context and explanations. The fort is also connected to a museum, which rounds off the visit nicely.
Location and Getting There
The fortress is located at Av. d'es Fortí 53 in Santanyí. Free parking is available directly at the site, and free on-street parking can also be found nearby.
