Description

The Coves dels Hams are a historic natural monument near Manacor in eastern Mallorca — a stunning cave system featuring stalactites, an underground lake, and a light-and-music show.

Hook-shaped stalactites and an underground lake

The caves take their name from their remarkably unusual, hook-shaped stalactites — 'hams' is the Catalan word for fishing hooks. These eccentric formations run through the cave chambers and are one of the site's most distinctive geological features. The highlight of every tour is the underground lake, where a classical music show with a dramatic light display is performed. At the start of your visit, a short film about the discovery and formation of the caves sets the scene perfectly.

Light, multimedia, and a natural stage

The caves make brilliant use of colourful lighting effects and multimedia projections to bring the natural rock to life. The combination of light and 3D technology shapes the experience in a meaningful way, and the atmospheric staging is very much part of what makes a visit here special. The temperature inside stays pleasantly cool throughout — a welcome relief from the summer heat of Mallorca.

Location & getting there

The caves are situated on the Ma-4020, Km. 11, near Manacor. Free parking is available directly on site, with additional free street parking nearby. An accessible parking space is clearly signposted. A bus stop right at the entrance also makes it easy to arrive by public transport.

Who is it good for?

The tour is firmly family-friendly in its approach. Children are eased into the geology through the short films and multimedia elements, keeping things engaging for younger visitors. Do bear in mind that the interior involves numerous steps, some of them quite steep — sturdy footwear is recommended. The caves are not fully accessible for visitors with limited mobility.
