Mirador Penya del Migdia
Description
The Mirador Penya del Migdia is a viewpoint and hiking destination in Alcúdia, reached via a coastal walk through pine forest and rocky terrain.
The way up
The walking route winds through a coastal landscape of pine trees, wildflowers and rocky ground. The early stages are relatively flat and undemanding; only near the summit does the character change dramatically. A narrow rock crevice marks the transition to a steeper final section, where the last roughly 250 metres gain around 60 metres in height — partly using your hands in what amounts to easy scrambling. Blue marker dots painted on the rocks help you stay on course.
At the top: panorama and cannon
Those who make it to the summit are rewarded with a full 360-degree panorama: on a clear day you can see across the Bay of Alcúdia, towards Pollença and all the way to Cap Formentor. At the top sits an old cannon, widely regarded as the defining landmark of the viewpoint. Sunrises and sunsets from up here are particularly spectacular. Mountain goats are a common sight both on the path and at the summit.
Requirements & kit
Sturdy, non-slip footwear is an absolute must on this route — sandals and flip-flops are completely unsuitable. A head for heights is strongly recommended throughout, especially for the exposed final stretch. The hike is not suitable for very young children or anyone lacking sure-footedness. Families with children aged six and eight have reported a total round-trip time of around three hours.
Location & getting there
The walk starts at the Ermita de la Victòria within the municipality of Alcúdia (07400). Free parking is available on site, though it fills up early. Getting there by taxi is also an option.
