The Oratorio de la Mare de Déu del Refugio is a small chapel perched above Alaró, reached on foot via a mountain path.

The Chapel and Its Surroundings

The chapel sits atop the Puig d'Alaró and is well kept and well worth a visit. Right beside it there is a small refreshment stop for walkers, offering drinks and almond cake. A little further up the hill you'll find a small hostal with a café. A lovely detail: supplies are brought up the mountain by donkey.

The Views

From the chapel, sweeping views open up across both sides of the mountain. Climb a little higher and you'll be rewarded with panoramas stretching across much of the island.

Getting There & the Ascent

The chapel is located in the municipality of Alaró (07340). The best approach is to drive to the restaurant Es Verger and set off on foot from there. The route follows cobbled and rocky mountain paths and takes a good hour to an hour and a half at a relaxed pace — rather longer than is often suggested. Please note that drone flying is not permitted on site.
