Description

Platja des Caló is a secluded, unspoilt cove in the municipality of Artà in north-east Mallorca, reachable only on foot or by boat.

The Cove

A rocky cove with absolutely no tourist facilities — no kiosk, no sun loungers, no toilets. The water is crystal clear, though getting into the sea takes a little scrambling as the steps down are damaged. Seaweed along the shoreline is possible. The real draw is the view of the cove with the mountains rising behind it.

Getting There

The coastal path starts at Betlem, in the municipality of Artà, and runs for roughly 3.5 km along the coastline — sea on one side, mountains on the other. The route offers shady stretches and sweeping views throughout. If you'd rather not walk, the cove can also be reached by boat.

Who Is It For?

The cove is perfect for anyone after peace and quiet who doesn't mind a coastal walk to get there. Snorkelling is very much possible. Do be prepared for jellyfish during the later summer months — though none have been reported in May. The spot also lends itself beautifully to sunset watching.
