Platja des Coll Baix
Description
Platja des Coll Baix is a secluded, unspoilt beach on the La Victòria peninsula near Alcúdia — nestled in a cove framed by towering cliff faces.
Water, Shoreline and Atmosphere
The beach is made up of fine, small-grained shingle. The water is crystal-clear and turquoise — within just a few metres the seabed drops away beneath you. The cove is enclosed by dramatic steep cliffs, the scenery raw and untouched. There are no hotels or beach bars here; the silence and sense of remoteness are fundamental to what this place is. Wild goats roam freely between the rocks and the shore, completely unbothered by visitors.
Getting to the Cove: A Hike with Scrambling
The starting point is the final car park on the La Victòria peninsula. The approach takes between 45 and 60 minutes depending on your pace and where you set off from. The path initially winds through a wooded pine landscape before becoming considerably more demanding near the beach. The final stretch requires genuine scrambling over rough rock — one of the two descent routes involves a steep, slippery slope, the other takes you over large boulders. Both options call for sure-footedness and concentration. Trail markings are patchy, and straying off the path quickly leads you into unsecured terrain.
Who It's For — and Who It Isn't
This beach is not suitable for children, people with limited mobility, or anyone who isn't confident on their feet. Sturdy footwear with a good grip is absolutely essential. In strong winds and heavy surf, swimming can be dangerous. Those who are sure-footed, up for an adventure and willing to put in the effort will be rewarded with a quiet, barely developed cove that ranks among the most impressive natural beaches on Mallorca.
Location and Getting There
The beach sits on the La Victòria peninsula, roughly 5 km from Port d'Alcúdia. The access road to the peninsula is narrow and may have potholes and loose stones. At the end of the driveable stretch there is a limited number of parking spaces. An alternative to the hike is arriving by boat — excursion boats from Alcúdia call at the cove regularly.
What to Bring
As there is absolutely no infrastructure on site, you'll need to bring enough water and food for your entire visit. Insect repellent is advisable on the wooded approach path through tall grass. Sun protection — such as your own parasol — is a good idea, as there is very little shade on the beach itself.
