Playa del mago
Description
Playa del Mago is a small, unspoilt cove in Calvià, well known as a naturist beach, where crystal-clear turquoise water and a striking rocky backdrop make it a wonderful spot for swimming and snorkelling.
Two Coves, One Address
Playa del Mago is divided into two distinct areas: a smaller cove that has long been used as a naturist section, and an adjacent cove for those who prefer to keep their swimwear on. In both parts, the water is exceptionally clear and turquoise — you can see straight to the bottom — which also makes the bay a great spot for snorkelling. Fish can be spotted right at the water's edge.
Nature & Exploration
The rocks, cliffs and a small cave surrounding the cove are well worth exploring. The descent to the cave is an adventure in itself and requires a sure footing. From the clifftops, there are sweeping views over the bay. Earlier in the day the atmosphere is calm and relaxed; later on the cove fills up, and boats regularly drop anchor just offshore.
Location & Getting There
The cove is located in Calvià (07181) and is accessible by car, with free parking available close to the beach. The road down — and the footpath — are both steep and narrow. If you're walking, sturdy footwear is strongly recommended, particularly for the climb back up.
Good to Know
There are no toilets at Playa del Mago, and the bar and restaurant that once operated here are now closed. Bring your own water and food. The sandy beach is soft, but the cove is small overall — if you want a spot on the sand, it pays to arrive early.
