Description
The Poblat de Navetes des Turassot – also known as Talaies de Can Quiam – is a prehistoric navetas settlement in Costitx, Mallorca.
A Prehistoric Settlement Under Restoration
The site is one of the best-preserved navetas ensembles on the island. Since 2015, a programme of clearance, excavation and restoration work has been under way, led by the Ajuntament de Costitx and the Consell Insular de Mallorca. The site dates to the naviform period, spanning roughly 1600 to 1050 BC – the phase during which the earliest traces of settlement in this area have been recorded.
What to Expect
The settlement takes its character from the distinctive navetas themselves: boat-shaped stone structures that define the layout of the complex. Active research campaigns make this a living archaeological project rather than a static monument. It also forms part of the Ruta Arqueológica Sencelles-Costitx, a trail connecting several prehistoric sites across the surrounding area.
Getting There
The site sits close to the former Observatorio Astronómico de Costitx (Planetarium). From the car park there, it's roughly a five-minute walk. You cannot drive directly to the site – access is on foot only.
