Refugi de l'Arenalet d'Albarca
Description
Refugi de l'Arenalet d'Albarca is a remote mountain refuge deep within the Parc Natural de la Península de Llevant, near Artà in the north-east of Mallorca — accessible on foot only, and exclusively for those who have booked a stay.
Pure wilderness in the natural park
Surrounded by rugged hills, coastal paths and unspoilt beaches, this protected corner of north-east Mallorca is one of the quietest spots on the entire island. The sea here is a striking, extraordinary blue, and the nearby beaches are barely developed. If you are looking to truly escape everyday life, this is about as far from the crowds as it gets.
What the refuge offers
The refuge has a well-equipped kitchen with a fridge, and each room comes with its own bathroom. Beds are provided with mattresses, but you will need to bring your own bedding, blankets, pillows or a sleeping bag. As everything has to be carried in on foot, pack wisely — your rucksack is your only storage.
Getting there
The refuge cannot be reached by car. It sits deep inside the natural park and is only accessible via marked walking trails. Starting points include the information station near Artà and the car park above Cala Mitjana. The route follows the coastline across rocky terrain; trail No. 5 on the return leg is notably steep. Bring plenty of water and food — there are no shops or facilities along the way.
Booking and capacity
The refuge has limited capacity, and spaces — particularly at weekends — are hard to come by. Booking well in advance is strongly recommended.
