Description

Sa Volta des General is a coastal walking route near Banyalbufar in the north-west of Mallorca, winding along the clifftop coast to the small harbour village of Es Port des Canonge.

The Route

The path — also known as the Smugglers' Trail — meanders along the west coast through pine forests and past dramatic rock faces. The vegetation is wonderfully varied, and sweeping views of the sea and coastline accompany you the whole way. Waymarking is consistently clear, the track is wide and easy underfoot, and shady stretches beneath the pines keep things pleasantly cool even in summer. At the end of the walk, the shingle beach at Es Port des Canonge awaits, where you can take a dip — and two places to eat are on hand as well.

Difficulty & Suitability

The route is considered easy and is perfectly suited to families with children. Sturdy footwear isn't strictly necessary, though it's never a bad idea. If you're walking there and back, do bring plenty of water with you, as there are no supplies available along the way.

Location & Getting There

The trail runs along the Ma-10 near Banyalbufar (07191). The car park at the trailhead is small and holds only a handful of vehicles, so setting off early is a good idea to secure a space. If you're starting from Banyalbufar itself, follow the main road for a short stretch to reach the actual trailhead.
