Torre Picada
Description
Torre Picada is a historic watchtower near Sóller, perched above the coastline and accessible as a walking destination via a well-marked trail.
The Tower and Its History
The striking tower catches the eye from a distance. Both the tower and its grounds are privately owned — the interior is not accessible and the tower itself remains locked. You can walk right up to the outer walls, but that is as far as the grounds allow. The real draw, however, lies less in the structure itself and more in what unfolds from up here.
Views and Atmosphere
Once you reach the top, a sweeping panorama opens up across the sea, the coastline, and the surrounding mountain landscape. The ascent is especially rewarding in the evening: the sunset over the sea is one of the reasons many visitors find themselves making the trek more than once. The atmosphere at the summit is peaceful and unhurried.
The Walking Trail
The path is well signposted and winds through a varied landscape of woodland and coastal stretches; you may well spot wild goats along the way. The ascent is short but steep in places. The terrain is not suitable for pushchairs. The tower is only reachable on foot — you can drive to a certain point, but beyond that the road is private.
Location & Getting There
Torre Picada lies within the municipality of Sóller (07100). The bus stop in Port de Sóller is a popular starting point; from there, the tower is roughly a 30-minute walk. You will need to park before the private stretch of road. A word of warning: sat-nav services sometimes direct visitors along private tracks or hotel approach roads — it is worth trusting the on-site signage and looking for the trailhead on Carrer de Bèlgica.
