SHAPE – real name S. Jiménez Alvarez, also known as JASSS – is a sound artist and producer who grew up on the northern coast of Spain. Her parents' passion for jazz, African and South American rhythms became some of her most formative musical influences. From an early age, she developed a deep fascination with the relationship between sound and people, which eventually led her to leave Spain, distancing herself from a social and cultural landscape she felt increasingly alienated from. The punk and hardcore roots of her youth evolved into an immersion in industrial, dub and experimental music – sonic worlds she found evocative in mystifying, hard-to-access ways. In 2015 she made her debut as a DJ, quickly establishing a distinct and eclectic style as her signature. After years of studio work, she released her first 12-inch, the Caja Negra EP, cementing her reputation in the experimental electronic scene. Her artistic practice combines DJ sets with live elements such as turntables, CDJs and DIY instruments, alongside Ableton-based production. SHAPE is part of the SHAPE+ network, which supports European sound artists at the intersection of music and technology.
