Básico Gastrobar sits on Carrer Major, the main lane inside Alcúdia's walled old town, and it is pretty much what the word gastrobar promises: neither a formal restaurant nor simply a bar, but a house where you can graze your way through tapas or sit down for a full rice dish. The kitchen calls itself contemporary Mediterranean with a Mallorcan accent — which here means island produce rather than fusion, on a menu that also knows pasta and burgers.
The cooks were born on Mallorca, and the house makes a point of buying local and fresh. It sums up its own menu in three words: tapas, rice, pasta. That order works as a plan for a visit too — share a few small things first, then decide whether a larger dish follows.

Tapas, rice and pasta at Básico Gastrobar
The tapas page is the longest part of the menu and mixes Andalusian, Galician and Mallorcan ideas. There are fried squid rings, patatas bravas, padrón peppers and broken eggs with Iberian ham, alongside Galician-style octopus on potato parmentier with a smoked-paprika oil, beef carpaccio with citrus vinaigrette and pine nuts, and gourmet chicken croquettes. It turns Mallorcan with the pa amb oli — with ham and Mahón cheese, with cuttlefish or with vegetables — and with lamb's liver island style, a dish that rarely appears on menus written for holidaymakers.
The rice dishes are the second pillar. They are cooked at midday and built for two, so sharing is the default. Besides the paella with seasonal vegetables there is black rice with squid and prawns, a paella with grilled octopus and saffron allioli, and the Mallorcan arroz brut. If you prefer something creamier, there are two risottos, one with porcini and pecorino, one with squid and prawns.
The pasta page stays deliberately short: tagliatelle with garlic oil and prawns or with pesto and parmesan, spaghetti carbonara and bolognese, gnocchi with four cheeses, and tortellini in a sauce of mushrooms, truffle and taleggio.

From the grill: burgers and meat to share
The burgers go over the grill here and arrive in a house-made brioche bun. The Mallorquina carries Mahón cheese, sobrassada, caramelised onion, egg and allioli; the Ibérica combines goat's cheese, Iberian ham and truffle mayonnaise; there is also a version with slow-cooked pulled pork in bourbon sauce and the house burger with double cheddar and onion jam.
Next to that the menu lists large cuts of meat explicitly meant for two, and a short fish selection: cod in mushroom sauce, grilled salmon fillet, sea bass fillets, grilled squid.
Who the menu works for
Vegetarians can read this menu surprisingly far: vegetable paella, pa amb oli with vegetables, quinoa and burrata salads, gnocchi, pesto tagliatelle, porcini risotto, bravas and padrón peppers. Children get a short menu of their own. And guests who eat gluten-free are looked after — bread, burger buns and the rice dishes can be ordered without gluten.
If you want to escape the lane, there is a small courtyard inside. Tables are booked through the venue's own reservation system on its website, which runs in five languages; in Alcúdia's old town that is no bad idea in summer.
