Bugambilia Street sits on the Carretera d'Andratx in Cas Català, on the old coast road between Cala Major and Illetes. From the outside it is a small roadside place, one of several along that stretch. What lifts it out is a verdict from elsewhere: at Sa Millor, the Balearic-wide burger competition run by the Fan Burger Club, the Mallorca title went to a smash burger from this very house. Última Hora and the Majorca Daily Bulletin both reported the jury's decision.
The reason sits in the small print of the menu. The patties are not shaped from ordinary mince but ground from aged beef rib chop, and that note repeats on almost every burger in the house — from the children's burger to the triple-stacked smash. Three different breads back them up, each assigned to particular burgers rather than used across the board: brioche, the airy pan cristal, and a soft potato roll. Gluten-free bread is available on request.

The burgers at Bugambilia Street Mallorca
The menu separates grill burgers from smash burgers, and the difference is more than cooking method. On the grill burgers a thick slab of meat sits on the bread, and the combinations run a long way apart: the Original BGB keeps to cheddar, bacon, lettuce, tomato and pickle. The Del Chef piles on foie, egg and truffle mayonnaise. The Balear brings in Mahón cheese, sobrassada with honey and fig jam; the Mexicana guacamole, pico de gallo, jalapeños and lime sauce; the Pollo Kimchicken breaded chicken and kimchi sauce. Two burgers are built on a plant-based patty, one of them with goat cheese, peanut cream and raspberry jam.
On the smash burgers the meat is pressed thin onto the hot plate until a crust forms, and it is usually stacked double. At the centre is the Royal BGB on the potato roll, with cheddar, bacon, caramelised onion and the house dressing. Beside it stand a quarter-kilo tower of three layers, a barbecue version, one with bacon jam and truffle mayonnaise, one with pulled pork and crisp bacon — and a smash made from Balearic lamb with goat cheese, mango chutney and mint mayonnaise. That last one is the most interesting line on the menu, because lamb hardly ever turns up on a burger list.

More than burgers
The word street in the name is not just decoration. The starters run to nachos with cheese or pulled pork, spicy chicken wings, chicken strips, house-made croquettes of chuletón, and fried camembert. Then come wraps — chicken, pulled pork, and one with red Thai curry, mango chutney and shiitake — three salads, among them a Caesar with iceberg lettuce, chicken, parmesan and croutons, and a handful of sides. The sweet potato fries stand out among those: plain in one version, with truffle mayonnaise and parmesan in the other. The sauces are made in house and can be ordered separately, from barbecue through lime and chilli to chimichurri. To finish, there is coulant with sorbet, brownie with vanilla, and banoffee.
One line exists only here and not at the sister house: the Scandinavo, a hot dog with Danish sausage, remoulade, crisp onion and pickles. Next to it sits the Classic with bockwurst and curry ketchup. For children there is a short menu of their own.
Cas Català and around
Cas Català is the first place past the Palma city boundary, a quiet coastal strip of small coves, hotels and houses. Palma's centre lies a good five kilometres to the east, Illetes about a kilometre to the west, Portals Nous not quite two and a half. Bugambilia Street also runs a second place in Palmanova with the same team; the two menus overlap heavily but are not identical.
A note for anyone searching: a few steps further along the same road stands the Restaurante Bugambilia, a beach place at the Caló dels Malls with a Mediterranean menu. The two share the name but not the kitchen. If you want the burger, stay up on the road. Booking and ordering go by telephone, and takeaway and delivery are both possible.
