Plan B sits one street back from the seafront in S'Illot, on Carrer del Tamarell, and it makes no secret of that — it makes a concept of it. The house describes itself as second line: the address you turn off for when you want to leave the promenade behind.
The name puts tapas, grill and burgers in one breath. Read as a ranking, it misleads, because the kitchen starts somewhere else. It puts homemade tapas first, fresh fish and seafood from the bay behind them, and only then meat from the grill. The tables tell the same story: most of them carry a mixed tapas platter, and everything else arranges itself around it.

The kitchen at Plan B: tapas first, fish right after
The mixed platter is the dish this house rests on, and there is a version built entirely from seafood and meant for two. Around it stand the classics that make up a Spanish tapas list — boquerones, the anchovies that belong to every round along this coast, or the fritura, the plate of fried fish and seafood. On the fish side the menu carries sea bass and king prawns, and the claim behind it is a plain one: the fish comes out of the bay in front of the town.
From the grill come entrecôte, beefsteak, secreto ibérico and spareribs. The burgers in the name are the third pillar, not a footnote. They come out as large as almost everything here — portion size is the second constant alongside freshness, and anyone ordering for the first time will almost inevitably order too much. Vegetarian and vegan dishes are a fixed part of the menu, a fair amount can be handled gluten-free, and there is a separate, compact choice for children.

A street back from the promenade
S'Illot is one of the smaller resorts on Mallorca's east coast, between Sa Coma to the north and Cala Morlanda to the south. The places to eat here are not confined to the seafront; they spread into the lanes behind it — and that is exactly where Plan B stands. Outside you sit between house fronts rather than at the water, quieter than on the promenade.
Inside it is colourful: plenty of greenery, a fit-out that reads as considered rather than thrown together, and a tone that stays casual. The cut of the place suits somewhere families, couples and larger groups sit side by side. High chairs are there, the entrance is step-free, and you can take the food away as well. Booking is worth it — the house asks for it regularly itself, by phone or by message.
Plan B, Qu4tro and Pub 57
Plan B does not stand alone. It belongs to a small group of three houses in S'Illot that deliberately differ from one another: Qu4tro sits directly on the beach and cooks paella, seafood and Thai, Pub 57 is the cocktail bar at the water. Within that division Plan B is the unshowy restaurant of the second line — the house for a long afternoon or for dinner without a particular occasion.
