The Bierkönig is the best-known nightlife address on Playa de Palma – a beer garden with an open-air mega-disco right on the Schinkenstraße in S'Arenal, just 5 km from the airport. Across more than 5,000 m², every generation has gathered here for decades for the loudest, most honest party at the Ballermann. Cold beer in the sun by day, full throttle by night.
What makes the Bierkönig special
Today's legend began in 1990: Frankfurt restaurateur Manfred Meisel bought a struggling bar in 1989 and reopened it on 21 April 1990 as a German-style beer garden with an open-air disco. Since 2002 there has also been a permanent two-storey indoor area, which allows it to operate all year round – today the Pascual family runs the place.
At over 5,000 m², the Bierkönig is the largest and oldest party hall on the Schinkenstraße, often simply called the "Germans' living room". Spread across multiple bars and counters, at least three live shows run every day, alongside public viewing of the Bundesliga and Formula 1 on giant screens. It is open 365 days a year; during the summer season non-stop from 9 a.m. to 5 a.m. The 2026 season starts from 16 to 19 April – the earliest opening in the venue's history.
Areas & floors
The Bierkönig is divided into three connected areas that you can move freely between. The freshly renovated **Festhalle** is the engine of the night – a new sound system, fresh lighting effects and huge LED screens, plus several live shows and concerts daily.
The open-air **Biergarten** is the heart of the daytime: long tables, DJ sets, a cold beer in the sun, and an open-air party after dark. In the traditional **"old area"** beats the original heart of the venue – by evening it turns into a disco with live performances. Musically it's all party Schlager and the infamous Ballermann hits, mixed with charts, pop and the classics of the 70s through 90s.
Who takes the stage here
The Bierkönig is one of the most important stages of the German party scene. Regulars on the show stage include Peter Wackel, Tim Toupet, Mia Julia, Ikke Hüftgold and Mickie Krause – even Schlager icon Heino has performed here. The current programme features names like Breitner, Loona, Tobee, Malle Anja, Frenzy and Specktakel. A tip: from the second-floor balcony you look straight down onto the show stage.
Entry, dress code & good to know
There are no reservations – it's first come, first served. During normal daytime operation entry is free, even for live acts; only at certain special events may there be an entry fee or minimum spend. The dress code asks for the basics: a top and closed shoes are required, wild full-body costumes are not welcome. Beyond that, only one thing counts – party, sing, good vibes.
