Cocktails by the pool, Balinese daybeds at the water's edge, a DJ in the evening and a sundowner to the sound of the waves: Mallorca's beach clubs are synonymous with a relaxed, luxurious seaside lifestyle and draw an international crowd. Unlike a simple beach bar, they combine loungers or daybeds, ambitious Mediterranean cuisine and often a private pool into a full day that runs from brunch into the warm night.
The range is wide, from the pure-white classic of Purobeach Palma to the high-gloss glamour of Nikki Beach in Magaluf. Some clubs sit right on the sand, others perch on the cliffs with a saltwater pool and sweeping sea views.
The highest concentration is in the southwest. Around the Bay of Palma and along the coast from Portals Nous through Costa d'en Blanes to Camp de Mar, one club follows the next – think UM Beach House near Puerto Portals, Mar Sea Club, or Maria 5 Beach in Camp de Mar. Dramatically set on the rocks is Beach Club Gran Folies at Cala Llamp near Port d'Andratx.
East of Palma, at Cala Blava near Llucmajor, Mhares Sea Club offers a large pool above the sea. So you'll find both clubs on fine sandy beaches and striking clifftop locations – the choice comes down to whether swimming or the view matters more to you.
Start with what you want from the day: a quiet lunch with a sea view, a full day on a lounger, or an evening of DJ sets. Glamour addresses like Nikki Beach are louder and pricier, while clifftop clubs tend to be calmer and built around the sundowner. For a swimming day, look for a sand-beach location; for a pool and daybeds, booking ahead is what counts.
In practice, almost everywhere: reserve daybeds and VIP loungers in advance, expect a minimum spend, and dress a little smarter for the evening. A hire car helps, since many clubs sit on the coast outside the towns.
For daybeds, VIP loungers and dining tables you should definitely reserve ahead in high season – popular clubs fill up fast at weekends. Walking up for a drink at the bar is usually possible without a reservation, depending on the venue and how busy it is.
It varies widely by club. Glamour addresses like Nikki Beach sit well at the top end, with a minimum spend for daybeds and premium drink prices. At many clubs you can keep it lighter with just a cocktail at the bar or a lunch. For a full day with a lounger and food, plan for an upscale budget.
During the day, smart beachwear with a cover-up is fine at most beach clubs. In the evening and at the more glamorous venues, neater, stylish clothing is expected, and swimwear or wet things are not welcome at that point.
Many of the premium clubs are built around a private pool, often ringed with daybeds – think Purobeach Palma, UM Beach House near Portals, or Mhares Sea Club. Clifftop venues without direct beach access usually make up for it with a saltwater or infinity pool.
The season runs roughly from May to October, peaking in July and August. For a relaxed day, arrive in the morning or early afternoon; the full lifestyle experience with a DJ and sundowner comes alive towards the evening.
