470 World Championships: Xammar and Cardona win bronze

Jordi Xammar and Marta Cardona won bronze at the 470 World Championships in Enoshima, Japan, on 17 August 2026. The Spanish crew secured their second world championship medal in their second season together.

They began the final day second overall but finished fifth and ninth in the two Medal Series races for the championship’s top 10 crews, dropping to third. Britain’s Martin Wrigley and Bettine Harris took the world title, while Germany’s Theresa Löffler and Christopher Hoerr claimed silver.

Xammar sets consecutive podium record

The result gives Xammar a podium finish at nine consecutive 470 World Championships, a run that began in 2018. He moves beyond Mathew Belcher’s sequence of eight straight world championship medals between 2010 and 2017.

Across those nine championships, Xammar has collected three golds, three silvers and three bronzes with Nico Rodríguez, Nora Brugman and Cardona. The sequence continued through the change from the men’s 470 class to the current mixed format.

Four major podiums this season

Bronze in Enoshima completed a season in which Xammar and Cardona reached the podium at all four major international events they contested. They also won bronze at the European Championships in Vilamoura and gold at the Trofeo Sofía Mallorca by FERGUS Hotels on Mallorca.

The pair also won the French Olympic Week in Hyères, adding another victory to their season’s results.
