470 World Championships: Xammar and Cardona take bronze in Enoshima
Jordi Xammar and Marta Cardona won bronze at the 470 World Championships in Enoshima, Japan, on 17 August 2026. The Spanish pairing secured its second world-level medal in only its second season together.
Xammar and Cardona began the final day second overall, but finishes of fifth and ninth in the two Medal Series races dropped them to third. The races were contested by the championship’s top 10 crews.
Britain’s reigning European champions Martin Wrigley and Bettine Harris took the world title, while Theresa Löffler and Christopher Hoerr of Germany won silver.
Xammar sets consecutive podium record
The Enoshima result gave Xammar a ninth consecutive podium finish at the 470 World Championships, a run stretching back to 2018. It surpasses the eight straight world championship podiums recorded by Australian sailor Mathew Belcher between 2010 and 2017.
Across those nine championships, Xammar has collected three golds, three silvers and three bronzes. He achieved the results alongside Nico Rodríguez, Nora Brugman and Cardona, maintaining the sequence through the class’s change from a men’s event to its current mixed format.
Four major regatta podiums this season
Bronze in Enoshima means Xammar and Cardona have reached the podium at all four major international regattas they contested this season. They previously took bronze at the European Championships in Vilamoura.
The pair also won the Trofeo Sofía Mallorca by FERGUS Hotels and the French Olympic Week in Hyères.
