Vincent Hsu (徐崇育) est un bassiste, compositeur et pédagogue de musique primé, originaire de Kaohsiung, Taiwan. Élevé dans la culture taïwanaise, il s'installe à New York City en 2002 pour étudier la basse auprès de la légende du jazz Cecil McBee, une expérience déterminante qui l'a durablement marqué. Il obtient un master en Jazz Performance à la New York University ; parmi ses mentors figurent, outre McBee, Andy González, Jerry González, Victor Venegas et Luis Perdomo.
Son style associe jazz et musique afro-cubaine à ses racines taïwanaises. Avec son groupe « Soy La Ley Afro-Cuban Jazz Band » et le « Jazz Supreme Orchestra », il s'est produit sur des scènes internationales, notamment au Taichung Jazz Festival et au Tainan Jazz Festival. En 2024, il entreprend une tournée aux États-Unis à laquelle participe également le NEA Jazz Master Donald Harrison.
Son album *Music for the River Jazz Suite: The Spirit of Love River & Mississippi River* (Truth Revolution Records, octobre 2023) a reçu quatre étoiles de *DownBeat Magazine* et a été distingué comme Editors' Pick 2023. L'œuvre relie le Love River de sa ville natale, Kaohsiung, au Mississippi River.
Aujourd'hui, Hsu vit et travaille à Taiwan. Il est Director of Jazz & Afro-Cuban Orchestra à la National Taiwan University of Arts et organise depuis 2018 la Summer Jazz Party au Taiwan National Theater and Concert Hall.
