Los Cafres sono considerati i pionieri del Roots Reggae in lingua spagnola. Fondato nel 1987 in un pub del Barrio Norte di Buenos Aires, il gruppo nacque come progetto di musicisti appassionati e attivi in varie band; per questo la formazione iniziale era instabile e le esibizioni sporadiche. Nel 1989 la band si sciolse temporaneamente e molti membri lasciarono l'Argentina. Dal 1992 tornarono e ripartirono con nuovo slancio. Il loro primo album „Frecuencia Cafre" portò loro un ampio riconoscimento negli anni Novanta. Con „Instinto" (1995) e il relativo „Instinto DUB" – il primo album dub dell'Argentina – stabilirono nuovi standard; nel 2009 l'edizione argentina di Rolling Stone lo ha eletto miglior album reggae della storia musicale argentina. Con „Quién da más?" (2004), Los Cafres raggiunsero per la prima volta il grande pubblico. Seguirono „Luna Park" (2006), „Barrilete" e „Hombre Simple" (entrambi del 2007), oltre al doppio album „El Paso Gigante" (2011). La loro discografia comprende complessivamente 14 album in studio pubblicati per l'etichetta Popart Discos. Il cantante Guillermo Bonetto è il volto della band; tra i brani più noti figurano „Tus Ojos", „Bastará" e „Secreto Mío". Los Cafres hanno suonato in lungo e in largo in tutta l'America Latina, esibendosi anche nel leggendario Luna Park di Buenos Aires.
