Padawans Big Band è un ensemble jazz che riunisce musicisti dai percorsi più diversi. Tra i suoi membri c’è il pianista Cengiz Yaltkaya, nato a Istanbul, cresciuto in Svizzera e trasferitosi a New York nel 1967. Ha studiato al Berklee College of Music, ha lavorato come arrangiatore e produttore per Atlantic Records dal 1976 al 1986 ed è attivo nella scena jazz di Los Angeles dal 1995. Il bassista Gordon Bash è originario di Pittsburgh ed è il membro più giovane della band. L’ensemble si ispira alla grande tradizione delle big band, unendo il jazz a elementi di funk, fusion e composizione classica: un linguaggio sonoro plasmato da pionieri come Thad Jones, Don Ellis e Jaco Pastorius. Padawans Big Band porta queste influenze sul palco, creando un ponte tra l’eredità dello swing classico e i linguaggi del jazz contemporaneo.
