The Uptown Band è stata fondata nel 2006 a Reading, in Pennsylvania, dal cantante, sassofonista e musicista professionista Erich Cawalla. Laureato alla Shippensburg University, Cawalla vive della sua passione per la musica dal 2004. La band si è affermata rapidamente come uno dei live act più richiesti del nord-est degli Stati Uniti, con oltre 2.000 esibizioni in festival, eventi aziendali, matrimoni e manifestazioni benefiche, davanti a un pubblico che spazia da militari e governatori fino alla leggenda Disney Jodi Benson.
Musicalmente, The Uptown Band attraversa un ampio repertorio di R&B, soul, funk, jazz, pop e rock. Nel 2008 è uscito il primo album, *Waiting for Her*, seguito da *Heart, Soul, Body & Mind* (2014). Tra i musicisti ospiti figurano Will Lee (CBS Orchestra, Late Show with David Letterman), Greg Adams, fondatore dei Tower of Power, e il percussionista Doc Gibbs. La cantante Jenifer Kinder collabora regolarmente con la band sul palco.
La band ha vinto il premio „Best Variety/Dance Band" dei Central Pennsylvania Music Awards sia nel 2022 sia nel 2024, ricevendo complessivamente cinque nomination. A questi riconoscimenti si aggiungono il Gigmasters Lifetime Award e il WeddingWire Couples' Choice Award.
