Vincent Hsu (徐崇育) è un contrabbassista, compositore e docente di musica pluripremiato, originario di Kaohsiung, Taiwan. Cresciuto con radici taiwanesi, nel 2002 si è trasferito a New York City per studiare contrabbasso con la leggenda del jazz Cecil McBee, un’esperienza decisiva che lo ha segnato profondamente. Ha conseguito un master in Jazz Performance alla New York University; oltre a McBee, tra i suoi mentori figurano Andy González, Jerry González, Victor Venegas e Luis Perdomo.
Il suo stile musicale fonde jazz e musica afro-cubana con le proprie radici taiwanesi. Con la sua „Soy La Ley Afro-Cuban Jazz Band" e con la „Jazz Supreme Orchestra" si è esibito su palcoscenici internazionali, tra cui il Taichung Jazz Festival e il Tainan Jazz Festival. Nel 2024 ha intrapreso una tournée negli Stati Uniti alla quale ha partecipato anche il NEA Jazz Master Donald Harrison.
Il suo album *Music for the River Jazz Suite: The Spirit of Love River & Mississippi River* (Truth Revolution Records, ottobre 2023) ha ricevuto quattro stelle da *DownBeat Magazine* ed è stato scelto come Editors' Pick 2023. L’opera mette in relazione il Love River della sua città natale, Kaohsiung, con il Mississippi River.
Oggi Hsu vive e lavora a Taiwan, è Director of Jazz & Afro-Cuban Orchestra presso la National Taiwan University of Arts e dal 2018 cura la Summer Jazz Party al Taiwan National Theater and Concert Hall.
