Het Royal Palace of La Almudaina is een historisch koninklijk paleis in het hart van Palma – ooit een Arabische vesting, nu het officiële koninklijke paleis op Mallorca.

Gotiek ontmoet islamitisch erfgoed

La Almudaina staat op de fundamenten van een Moorse citadel die bij de christelijke invasie in 1229 werd ingenomen. Het huidige bouwwerk verenigt gotische en Moors-islamitische architectuur tot een karakteristiek geheel: zware plafonds met eiken balken, stenen zalen, gewelfde plafonds en binnenplaatsen met fonteinen en palmen. Bijzonder zijn de waardevolle wandtapijten en wandkleden, evenals de gotische kapel van de Heilige Anna. De statige binnenplaats geldt als een van de mooiste fotoplekken van het hele complex.

Uitzichten en ligging in de wijk Centre

Het paleis ligt in de wijk Centre in Palma, aan de Carrer del Palau Reial, recht tegenover de kathedraal. Vanaf de terrassen en hogere verdiepingen van het gebouw kijk je uit over de haven en de baai van Palma. Ook vanaf de binnenplaats kun je de kathedraal prachtig fotograferen.
