Georg Friedrich Händel (1685–1759) geldt als een van de belangrijkste componisten uit de barok. Hij werd geboren in Halle (Saale), kreeg daar muziekles van Friedrich Wilhelm Zachow en werkte vervolgens als componist en muzikant in Hamburg en Italië, voordat hij zich in 1712 definitief in Londen vestigde. In 1727 werd hij Brits staatsburger en verengelsde hij zijn naam tot George Frideric Handel. Händels werk verenigt de Middenduitse polyfone traditie met de Italiaanse barok en de Engelse kerkmuziekstijl. Hij drukte een beslissend stempel op het Engelse oratorium en het orgelconcert, en bracht de Italiaanse opera tot een hoogtepunt in de hoogbarok. Tot zijn bekendste werken behoren het oratorium Messiah (1741), de Water Music (1717) en de Music for the Royal Fireworks (1749). Zijn Coronation Anthems werden speciaal gecomponeerd voor de kroning van Georg II en klinken nog altijd tijdens Britse kroningsceremonies. Händel staat niet als dj of hedendaagse performer op de podia van Mallorca, maar zijn nalatenschap leeft wereldwijd voort in klassieke concertprogramma's.
