De Orquesta Sinfónica Illes Balears (OSIB) werd in 1988 in Palma de Mallorca opgericht door de Fundació Pública de les Balears per a la Música en behoort tot de belangrijkste symfonieorkesten van Spanje. De huidige chef-dirigent is Pablo Mielgo; de eerste artistiek leider was Luis Remartínez, die het ensemble vanaf de oprichting tot 1994 vormgaf. De vaste speellocaties zijn Auditorium Palma, Trui Teatre en Auditori de Manacor. De OSIB zet zich in het bijzonder in voor componisten van de Balearen en de wereldpremières van hun werken. Sinds 1989 musiceert het orkest met internationaal gerenommeerde solisten, onder wie Alicia de Larrocha, Kiri Te Kanawa, Khatia Buniatishvili, Jean-Pierre Rampal en Joan Pons. Naast optredens op de eilanden trad de OSIB op in Auditorio Nacional en Teatro Real (Madrid), Palau de la Música (Barcelona) en internationaal in Musikverein Wien, Radio France (Paris) en de Saal voor Menschenrechte van de UNO in Genf. Ook Cannes, Perpignan, Marseille en Zürich stonden op het tourschema. De OSIB is lid van de Asociación Española de Orquestas Sinfónicas.
