Vincent Hsu (徐崇育) is een bekroonde bassist, componist en muziekpedagoog uit Kaohsiung, Taiwan. Hij groeide op met Taiwanese roots en verhuisde in 2002 naar New York City om bas te studeren bij jazzlegende Cecil McBee, een bepalende ervaring die hem blijvend heeft gevormd. Hij behaalde zijn master Jazz Performance aan de New York University; naast McBee rekent hij ook Andy González, Jerry González, Victor Venegas en Luis Perdomo tot zijn mentoren.
Zijn muziekstijl verbindt jazz en Afro-Cubaanse muziek met zijn Taiwanese roots. Met zijn band „Soy La Ley Afro-Cuban Jazz Band" en het „Jazz Supreme Orchestra" trad hij op internationale podia op, waaronder het Taichung Jazz Festival en het Tainan Jazz Festival. In 2024 maakte hij een tournee door de Verenigde Staten, waaraan ook NEA Jazz Master Donald Harrison meewerkte.
Zijn album *Music for the River Jazz Suite: The Spirit of Love River & Mississippi River* (Truth Revolution Records, oktober 2023) kreeg vier sterren van *DownBeat Magazine* en werd uitgeroepen tot Editors' Pick 2023. Het werk verbindt de Love River uit zijn geboorteplaats Kaohsiung met de Mississippi River.
Hsu woont en werkt tegenwoordig in Taiwan, is Director of Jazz & Afro-Cuban Orchestra aan de National Taiwan University of Arts en cureert sinds 2018 de Summer Jazz Party in het Taiwan National Theater and Concert Hall.
