classical · contemporary-classical · film-music
Pau Cladera Marroig is a Mallorcan composer, pianist and violinist who has drawn attention from a remarkably young age. He began writing music at nine; at seventeen he achieved the top grade "Matrícula de Honor" at the conservatory and moved audiences at a Torrent de Pareis concert with violin solos from "Cinema Paradiso" and the "Méditation" from the opera "Thaïs". His first public work — a musicalized story produced by Ona Edicions — was performed with the chamber orchestra Aprojove at Castillo de Son Mas in Andratx. At eighteen he completed "La Croada al Regne sobre el Mar", a full-length composition about the conquest of Mallorca, staged in Andratx, Porreres and Llubí. For the FonJazz Classic Festival in Sóller he composed the suite "Reminiscències Rurals" for piano and recorders, blending Mallorcan folk music with classical forms. He currently studies composition at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna (mdw), where his works have also been performed at faculty composition concerts. Alongside composing, he regularly arranges pieces for Aprojove and performs as pianist and concertmaster.
