The Uptown Band foi fundada em 2006, em Reading, na Pensilvânia, pelo cantor, saxofonista e músico profissional a tempo inteiro Erich Cawalla. Licenciado pela Shippensburg University, Cawalla dedica-se profissionalmente à música desde 2004. A banda afirmou-se rapidamente como um dos projetos ao vivo mais procurados do nordeste dos Estados Unidos, com mais de 2 000 atuações em festivais, eventos empresariais, casamentos e iniciativas de beneficência, para públicos que vão de militares e governadores à lenda Disney Jodi Benson.
Musicalmente, The Uptown Band percorre um vasto leque de R&B, soul, funk, jazz, pop e rock. Em 2008, lançou o primeiro álbum, *Waiting for Her*, seguido de *Heart, Soul, Body & Mind* (2014). Entre os músicos convidados encontram-se Will Lee (CBS Orchestra, Late Show with David Letterman), Greg Adams, membro fundador dos Tower of Power, e o percussionista Doc Gibbs. A cantora Jenifer Kinder é colaboradora regular em palco.
A banda venceu o prémio „Best Variety/Dance Band" dos Central Pennsylvania Music Awards em 2022 e 2024, tendo recebido um total de cinco nomeações. Somam-se ainda o Gigmasters Lifetime Award e o WeddingWire Couples' Choice Award.
