Major Lazer är ett amerikanskt EDM-kollektiv från Los Angeles, grundat 2008 av producenten Diplo (Thomas Pentz, från Philadelphia) och den brittiske producenten Switch – de två hade tidigare arbetat tillsammans med M.I.A. Efter att Switch lämnade gruppen 2011 tillkom Jillionaire och Walshy Fire som nya medlemmar. I dag består trion av Diplo, Walshy Fire och Ape Drums.
Debutalbumet „Guns Don't Kill People… Lazers Do" (2009, Downtown Records) spelades in på tre veckor i de legendariska Tuff Gong Studios i Kingston på Jamaica, med gäster som Vybz Kartel, Busy Signal och Santigold. Albumet var en banbrytande genreöverskridande blandning av dancehall, reggae och elektronisk musik. Deras låt „Pon De Floor" inspirerade Beyoncés världshit „Run the World (Girls)" (2011).
Med „Free the Universe" (2013, Secretly Canadian) och framför allt „Peace Is the Mission" (2015) fick Major Lazer sitt globala genombrott. Platinasingeln „Lean On" (feat. DJ Snake & MØ) och „Cold Water" (feat. Justin Bieber & MØ, 2016) stormade de internationella listorna. Det fjärde albumet „Music Is the Weapon" följde 2020. Samarbeten med Ariana Grande, Travis Scott, J Balvin och Bruno Mars visar projektets räckvidd bortom klubbscenerna. Billboard placerade Major Lazer på plats 5 på Dance 100-listan 2018.
