Description
The Talaia d'Albercutx is a historic watchtower monument on the Formentor Peninsula in northern Mallorca, built to defend the coastline against pirates.
Ruins with a View Like No Other
What remains of the Talaia d'Albercutx are ruins — and a panorama that stuns you from every angle. From the tower at around 360 metres above sea level, the views sweep across the Bay of Pollença, the Bay of Alcúdia, Cap Formentor and the rugged cliffs all around. Iron steps on the outer wall lead up to a small opening into the interior, and from there you can reach the platform at the very top — though a head for heights and sturdy footwear are an absolute must.
Sunrise and Sunset
Morning and evening light transform an already spectacular panorama into something truly memorable. Sunrise and sunset are particularly breathtaking here, and if you make it up early enough, you'll often have the place almost entirely to yourself.
Location & Getting There
The watchtower sits along the Ma-2210 road on the Formentor Peninsula, within the municipality of Pollença. The access road is narrow and winding, so take care with oncoming traffic. There are very few parking spaces directly by the tower — if you can't find a spot, park further down and walk the final stretch on foot.
Safety Warning
The car park below the tower has a well-documented history of organised break-ins. Thieves specifically target visitors while they're up at the tower and break into vehicles left unattended. Don't leave any valuables or cash in your car.
