Description
The Alzinaret Caves are a prehistoric burial site in Cala de Sant Vicenç in the north of Mallorca — freely accessible and right in the heart of the village.
Prehistoric rock tombs from the Bronze Age
The Alzinaret Caves are artificially carved rock tombs dating from Mallorca's pre-Talayotic period, created around 1600 BC. The caves served as a burial complex and follow a recognisable architectural scheme: small antechambers, internal divisions, and narrow, tightly cut chambers. Some of the tombs can be entered, though the doorways are low and require you to crouch. Signage and explanatory information boards are largely absent on site, which makes it difficult to contextualise what you're seeing without some prior knowledge.
Location & getting there
The site is located on Carrer de Joaquim Sorolla 63 in Cala de Sant Vicenç, set within a residential area — at street level and reachable from the surrounding lanes. The grounds can be explored on a short loop. Street parking is available nearby.
Who is it worth a visit for?
The site is a great fit for families with children, as well as anyone already spending time in Cala de Sant Vicenç who fancies a quick detour. If you're making a special trip solely for the caves, it's worth keeping expectations in check — a visit typically takes no more than ten to twenty minutes. That said, anyone with an interest in prehistory and archaeology will find more here than first meets the eye.
