Cala Mitjana
Description
Cala Mitjana is a small, secluded sandy cove on the east coast of Mallorca, within the municipality of Felanitx.
The Cove
Cala Mitjana — roughly translated as the 'Middle Cove' — is a small sandy bay framed by rocks and cliffs. The water is crystal clear and turquoise, and the natural setting is truly impressive. The cove is exceptionally small and fills up quickly, leaving little room once a handful of visitors have settled in. Much of the surrounding land is privately owned, which significantly limits the publicly accessible beach area.
Getting There
Cala Mitjana can only be reached on foot or by boat. From the car park, a narrow, rocky and uneven path leads down to the cove — the walk takes around 20 to 30 minutes. The terrain is demanding: the path is not suitable for pushchairs or wheelchairs, and even flip-flops make for an uncomfortable journey in summer. Vehicles are not permitted on the access track. Free parking is available nearby.
Who Is It For?
Cala Mitjana appeals most to visitors who enjoy a walk and prefer peace and unspoilt nature over a busy beach resort. The clear water is well suited to swimming and snorkelling. For families with young children or anyone with limited mobility, the cove is less practical — the access path is challenging and there is no infrastructure to speak of, with no toilets or kiosk on site.
