Camí de Betlem
Description
The Camí de Betlem is a coastal and mountain walking trail near Artà in the north-east of Mallorca, leading up to the Ermita de Betlem.
The Trail & Its Highlights
The path climbs from the road through a striking coastal and mountain landscape up to the Ermita de Betlem. Along the way, wild orchids and dwarf fan palms line the route, and if you keep your eyes open you'll spot a small dolmen as well as the occasional mountain goat. The views over turquoise water and the Bay of Alcúdia are among the most consistently praised qualities of this walk. The trail is easy to follow and the gradients are manageable — though a sure footing is still needed, as some sections are rocky and stony underfoot. Sturdy footwear is recommended, and it's worth bringing plenty of water. If you fancy a longer outing, the route can be extended eastwards towards Punta des Caló.
Atmosphere & Character
The mood along the Camí de Betlem is peaceful and pleasantly uncrowded. The trail is also well suited to dogs. The views from the path and from the hermitage come into their own at dusk — the sunset over the sea is a highlight that walkers return to time and again. No alpine experience is required.
Location & Surroundings
The trail lies within the municipality of Artà (07579) in the north-east of Mallorca. The trailhead is located at the roadside, where parking is available. Follow the ground markings: white markings or no markings indicate free parking, while yellow markings mean no parking.
