Parc natural de Mondragó
Description
The Parc Natural de Mondragó is a 766-hectare nature reserve on the southern coast of Mallorca, in the municipality of Santanyí.
Landscape and Nature
The park brings together a remarkably diverse coastal landscape: grasslands, wooded ravines, dunes, pine forests and rocky cliffs all sit side by side. Centuries of agricultural and pastoral use have shaped this distinctive natural environment. Of the 766 hectares in total, 95 are publicly owned. Birds, orchids and a wide variety of wild plants make the area a rewarding destination for nature lovers.
Beaches and Coves
Several coves with fine white sand and crystal-clear turquoise water lie within the park boundaries. The clarity of the water makes them equally appealing for snorkelling. The two main beaches are supervised by lifeguards, and toilets, a bar and a restaurant are all available on site.
Walking Trails
A number of signposted circular routes wind through the park, leading through woodland and coastal scenery to viewpoints overlooking the coves. The trails are short and well laid out, making the park well suited to a half-day trip. The coastal walk between the coves is considered easy to moderate.
Location and Getting There
The park is located on Carretera Mondragó s/n, 07691, in the municipality of Santanyí in southern Mallorca. A large car park sits at the entrance, with a short walk from there down to the beaches. The park is also reachable by public bus. On busy days the car park tends to fill up around midday, so an early arrival is recommended.
