Pizzeria Darfil is a small place on Carrer de Cannes, a few streets back from the beach promenade of the Platja de Palma. Two kitchens share one menu here: the Italian one with thinly rolled pizzas, the eastern Mediterranean one with doner, kebab and durum. On this stretch of coast that combination is nothing rare. What stands out is rather what guests talk about afterwards — the open kitchen you can watch while you wait, and a cleanliness that clearly is not treated as an afterthought. The price bracket is modest, the presentation deliberately low-key. A few tables, a counter, no concept that needs explaining. What you get instead are portions that are generous for what they cost, and service that stays quick even when the kitchen is working for the tables, the counter and a delivery at the same time. Anyone who lives on the Playa or holidays there knows addresses like this one: you do not come because you are going out, you come because you are hungry and you know it will be good. What Pizzeria Darfil puts on the table The pizzas come on a thin base — not the tall, airy rim of Naples but the flat, crisp version that is more common on the island. Alongside classics such as the Diavola there is the house's own Vesubio, plus toppings with bacon, with ham and egg, or with tuna, onion and pepperoni. The second half of the menu belongs to the rotating spit. Kebab with veal, kebab with chicken, doner and shawarma are all there, and so is durum — the rolled version in thin flatbread, with chicken or as a Completo with everything that fits inside. The spicy sauce that goes with it is a subject in its own right among regulars. If you want neither pizza nor spit, there are alitas — fried chicken wings — and lasagne. Salads belong to the offer too, vegetarian dishes are there for guests who do not eat meat, and halal food is part of what the kitchen prepares. To drink there is what suits a house like this: beer, wine, coffee. A neighbourhood place, not a brochure Darfil works three ways at once — in the room, over the counter for takeaway, and by delivery. That explains a good deal about the rhythm: it can look busy and still move fast, because part of the work never happens at the tables at all. There are seats, but not a great number of them. The house is set up for families, high chairs are available, and larger groups fit in as well. There is a bar area, Wi-Fi is free, and when sport is being broadcast it runs here too. Reservations are accepted, which is not a redundant note for a place of this size. Cards are taken, contactless included. Entrance and seating are step-free. Between the beach promenade and s'Arenal Carrer de Cannes belongs to the Platja de Palma i Pla de Sant Jordi district, at the eastern end of the long beach strip, where Palma turns into s'Arenal. It is only a few blocks to the sand; the street itself is one of those small cross streets where bars, snack places and neighbourhood restaurants sit close together. If you come by car, there is free parking and kerbside space in the surrounding streets — on the Platja de Palma that is a detail worth having. The airport lies a few kilometres to the north, Palma's old town a good ten kilometres to the west; both are quickly reached by car.
