Platja de Sa Font de Sant Joan
Description
Platja de Sa Font de Sant Joan is a small sandy cove near Alcúdia in the north-east of Mallorca, known for its crystal-clear turquoise water and a peaceful atmosphere far removed from the bustle of larger beach resorts.
Water & Snorkelling
The water here is crystal clear and vividly turquoise — and stays that way well out from the shore. Close to the water's edge the sea is particularly calm, making for thoroughly relaxed swimming. The rocks framing the cove are ideal for snorkelling: all manner of fish can be spotted beneath the surface, and octopus have been seen here too. A lifeguard service is present at the cove.
Beach & Surroundings
The cove is framed by rocks and a backdrop of hills that give it a pleasantly secluded feel — even though residential buildings sit just behind, you'd barely know it from the beach itself. The sand is soft underfoot and getting into the water is straightforward. Shade and food and drink on site are not reliably available, so it's well worth bringing your own sun umbrella, snacks and drinks. The beach also makes a natural stopping point on several walking and cycling routes in the area.
Location & Getting Here
The beach sits in the north-east of Mallorca, postcode 07400. There is parking above the cove as well as spaces in the side streets nearby, though capacity is limited — if you're driving, arriving early is strongly advisable as spots fill up quickly, especially during the morning hours.
Who Is It Suited To
The shallow, calm water makes the cove a great choice for children and less confident swimmers alike. The relatively unhurried pace — particularly outside peak summer — is one of its most appreciated qualities. In July and August it does get busier, though it remains quieter than most beaches in the area.
