Teckels Food & Drinks sits a few streets back from the seafront promenade of Platja de Palma, on Carrer del Llaüt, and brings together three things that rarely share a menu: burgers made with Mallorcan beef, small Spanish plates, and a bar that takes its cocktails seriously. The menu is written in German, which suits the crowd in this corner of the Playa. What stands out most is how short it is. A good dozen dishes, split into starters, mains and a single dessert — on a stretch of coast where menus usually arrive in several languages with a photograph of every plate. In exchange, each entry here is described precisely, right down to where the meat comes from. The burger and the grill side of Teckels Food & Drinks The flagship is called the Homemade Black Angus Burger. The beef is Mallorcan Black Angus and it arrives in an integral bun, a wholemeal roll, with roasted onions, lettuce, cheddar and a gherkin. Alongside come the Teckel's Fries, the house-made chips that accompany almost every main on the menu. Equal billing goes to the house-made spare ribs with BBQ sauce. The grill side is rounded out by marinated free-range chicken wings and a pork schnitzel with lemon. And then there is one entry that breaks the pattern: a smoked wagyu carpaccio with parmesan, rocket, truffle mayonnaise and black volcanic salt. Anyone assuming that everything behind the beach is standard fare will be caught out here. The Spanish and Italian side of the menu Before the mains comes a small Spanish section: bread with aioli, albóndigas in tomato sauce, gambas al ajillo in olive oil with garlic and diced tomato, and a salad with cherry tomatoes, onions and cress. It turns Italian with the burrata, served with tomato sauce and cherry tomatoes, and with the tagliatelle in a tomato and ricotta sauce with parmesan, with prawns if you want them. To finish there is exactly one sweet dish, and it follows the same logic: a lava cake with a molten chocolate centre and a scoop of vanilla ice cream. No dessert list, no choice — one thing, done properly. Bar, drinks and facilities The drinks page is longer than the food menu, which fits a house that is equally a cocktail bar. Mojitos come in several versions, alongside Long Island iced tea, Aperol, Lillet and Hugo. Sangria arrives by the glass or by the jug for the whole table. On the beer side the menu lists Estrella Galicia and Erdinger, with the Estrella also in an alcohol-free version. The dining room is air-conditioned, wifi is free, and the place can be booked for private celebrations. You can request a table through the venue's own booking form. On balance, Teckels Food & Drinks is not a place trying to reinvent itself. It is a manageable house on the Playa that carries a short menu through with some consistency, names its meat, and makes its own sauces and chips — and in this part of the island that is already enough to stand out.
