Tablao Flamenco Alma – Nightlife in Mallorca

Tablao Flamenco Alma

Palma

Palmashow venue

The first chord lands before the eye understands what is happening — through a small, dimly lit room. Then footsteps: hard, rhythmic, almost rudely present on the wooden floor. And then the voice: cante jondo from a depth that cannot be trained, only lived. At Tablao Flamenco Alma there is no distance between you and what is happening — close enough to see the tension in the guitarist's fingers and feel the cantaor's emotion almost physically.

Palma's First Tablao

Francisco Valero, flamenco guitarist from Posadas (Córdoba) and professor at the Conservatorio Profesional de Música y Danza de les Illes Balears, founded the Alma together with Rocío Arrom with a clear ambition: to bring the tablao experience — alive in Seville, Madrid and Córdoba for generations — to Palma for the first time. Not a stage show for bus groups, but a genuine performance venue with national-level standards. Opened in 2024, it remains the island's only tablao.

The Show

Each performance lasts roughly an hour — and none of it is scripted. The Alma follows the classic tablao principle: dance, song and guitar responding spontaneously to each other, no fixed script, improvisation as the founding principle. Casts rotate on a fortnightly basis and come from Seville, Madrid, Granada and Barcelona. Names that speak for themselves: El Farru (Antonio Fernández Montoya) spent ten years alongside Paco de Lucía; José Fermín won the Festival Internacional del Cante de las Minas; Jerónimo Maya has performed at Carnegie Hall and the Teatro Real Madrid; Juan Fernández "Barullo" took home the Premio Nacional de Flamenco de Córdoba. Three performances are staged each evening — the middle slot is listed as the most popular and sells out first.

Atmosphere

The room is deliberately small and feels more like a private gathering than a ticketed event. Flamenco paintings hang on the walls, turning the space into a small gallery between shows. Sightlines are good from every area; those who want to be closest choose the VIP zone in the front row. One thing to know: the chairs are hard and the rows tightly spaced — this is not comfort-concert seating but an experience that demands attention and gives it back in full.

Food & Drinks

A drink — beer, wine, cava, sangria or a soft drink — is included in every ticket. Tapas menus are available as optional add-ons: the Menú Tapas Tablao combines ibéricos, jamón, Manchego and potato tortilla; the Menú Tapas Alma adds duck foie mousse and Cantabrian anchovies. Those wanting a fuller meal can book a paella variant through external platforms, which includes salmorejo, tortilla, a meat or vegetable paella and carrot cake.

Who It's For

The Alma addresses residents and tourists alike — the host presents in Spanish, English and German. Couples, culture travellers and groups all find their place here; the early-evening slot also works well for families. Those who only know flamenco from half-hearted holiday shows will understand the difference.

Insider Tip

Book the middle evening slot early — it is the most popular and fills up first. Free cancellation is available up to 24 hours in advance. Several guests recommend sticking to the included drink and skipping the tapas upgrades, as the value-for-money on the food is seen as less compelling than the show itself. One tapas plate, if you order one at all, is reported to be easily enough for two.
