Mallorca Weather & Climate in Numbers
Mallorca lies in a Mediterranean climate zone with an average annual temperature of 16.6 °C. This figure describes the island's climate overall, while land and sea data are deliberately shown separately in the overviews, since air temperature and water temperature come from different measurement series and behave differently over the course of the year. The monthly normal values for Palma show a typical pattern: air temperature rises from 10.3 °C in January to 24.6 °C in August, the warmest month, while December, at 11.4 °C, is already cooler again. In terms of rainfall, there is a contrast between the dry summer, with just 7 mm in July, and the wetter transitional months, with October reaching the highest value at 67 mm. Sunshine duration follows a similar pattern to air temperature, peaking in July at 11.1 hours per day. Water temperature develops with a time lag relative to air temperature: while the air already warms up considerably in spring, the sea remains comparatively cool until early summer, before reaching its maximum of 26.2 °C in August. This delay is characteristic of the Mediterranean's heat storage and explains why the swimming season and the warmest air temperatures do not coincide exactly. The table below provides the monthly values in detail.
